On the last day of April, we gathered to celebrate change, passionate individuals, and sustainable initiatives in Herning, as we jointly presented the Herning Sustainability Award 2024 with Herning Municipality. It was a very special celebration of the community and the many positive initiatives we see in the transformation of our Herning.

The purpose of the award is to honour the many positive initiatives we see in the transformation of Herning. It also serves as a reminder that we are all in this change together and that our journey has only just begun.

More than 100 guests attended and celebrated the evening’s two winners.

Congratulations to the winners:

• Carsten Thor from Thors-Design, who won the award for Sustainable Passionate Individual of the Year

• The Center for Creative Industries and Professions at VIA University College, which received the award for Sustainable Initiative of the Year, was represented by Anders Bisgaard.

• Danny Bæksted and Claus Madsen from Tjørring I.F. Parasport

• Gitte Kyed from Ø-haven

• The Youth Community Justerbar(t)

• Lars Kallesøe Jakobsen from Kaffepuden

In addition to the nominees, many local and sustainable passionate individuals and initiatives were nominated, which is a testament to the great work happening in Herning Municipality.

A special thank you to:

• Anders Morgenthaler delivered a thought-provoking and life-affirming climate lecture with a touch of humour

• Ditlev Damhus, who managed to turn ESG reporting into inspiring rhyme poetry

• Jakob Bressendorf from HORN Bordplader A/S and Thomas Østergaard from VIA University College gave participants an insight into how past winners of the Sustainability Award are working on the transformation today

• Artist Jens Christian Jensen created beautiful works for the winners – naturally made from recycled materials

• Herning Municipality for the strong collaboration on the award ceremony and event

• Mayor Dorte West for guiding the proceedings and tying up all the loose ends.

Sustainable Passionate Individual
Awarded to a passionate individual who works purposefully and persistently to raise the bar for sustainability within an association, village, or similar community.

Criteria

• A solution to an environmental, natural, or societal issue
• Makes a difference and inspires
• Creates results for the community
